Starting Out...

The previous statement is the belief system the project was started on. The universality of the statement means that my project will have to involve communication with people and will be shaped around their input, they will provide the starting points of the project. In a way I want my own exploration and discovery to be the discovery of other people's discoveries.

I ask
ed people around London what their most important discoveries have been. My intention was to film their responses however, due to the personal nature of the discoveries people were not willing to be filmed although they were more than willing to tell me what they were.

As can be seen in the picture, some discoveries, such as sex, drinking and literature, kept coming up. These reoccurring answers, along with a few others all of which I have circled in red,a are all forms of escapism. This led me to the conclusion that escapism and discovery are inextricably linked as at least half of the discoveries I 'collected' were forms of escapism.

Escapism is something that fascinates me and I will continue to look at it for the rest of the project with a focus on the five forms I 'collected' from people. They are:

- LSD

- Pornography/ Sex

- Literature

- Alcohol

- Rock 'n' Roll
